Casey Wells – Side of Me (2022)

For the past five years (give or take), US-based musician Casey Wells has enthralled us with his genre-defying music. Take a quick peek at his discography and you’ll find folk to progressive rock and even some alternative pop in the repertoire. Featured on Sinusoidal Music, Wells has been described as “enchanting” and one to “take your breath away”. Yet, it is not only Sinusoidal Music singing his praise with coverage from various playlists and online radio stations. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Side of Me’.

Following his track ‘Tipping Time’, ‘Side of Me’ is Casey Wells’ first release in 2022. Unlike the deeper, darker, more hip-hop tones of ‘Tipping Time’, the new song brings an indie-rock meets power-pop sound. A melodic arrangement of drums, guitars and Wells’ bold vocals tips you into a sonic whirlpool. Yet, while you are in a whirlpool, there is a dreamy ambience that sets a smoother, gentler and flowing style.

One complaint I have is that the track is far too short. Only one-and-a-half minutes in length, Wells takes you through his tube of mystical music and spits you out the other side. Alright, maybe he doesn’t spit you out, he elegantly pushes you into silence. The thing is as charming and comfortable as ‘Side of Me’ is, it has a melancholic tinge to the tone. While there is melancholy, the song is also an empowering and hopeful track. Wells explains that ‘Side of Me’ is “about letting go of the past even if it feels like losing a part of yourself…”

Sincere, sentimental and endearing, singer-songwriter Casey Wells intoxicates you with his new single ‘Side of Me’.
