Track of the Day: Britny Lobas – Hollow

Known for her passionate powerhouse performances, singer-songwriter Britny Lobas can easily knock your socks off at any gig. While her energy as a performer is turning heads, her in-studio releases are doing the same thing. Described by Loris Lowe of KLBJ 93.7FM as a “blatantly talented front woman…she possesses a star quality that lights up the room or your speakers…”, it’s clear to see Lobas is turning heads. Add her gigs at various festivals (Heart of Texas Rock Festival, Pecan Street Festival and SXSW) to coverage on notable playlists/radios (iHeart Radio, Less Than 1000 Followers) and she is capturing hearts across the globe. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Hollow’.

Following her 2021 single ‘Be The One’, ‘Hollow’ is the first Britny Lobas song to hit the streaming sites. As with ‘Be The One’, there is a contemporary pop sound flowing through ‘Hollow’; however, a heavier rock thread shines bright in the new song’s melodic arrangement. In previous songs, I might have compared Lobas to acts like Ariana Grande, but there is a much harsher, raw and brutal tone in ‘Hollow’. Adopting a bit of a Joan Jett attitude, Lobas showcases her aggressive side with her gritty vocal execution. Add the scorching guitar in the background and you have an almost palpable grunge to the song.

Bringing a sting of powerhouse diva to our ears, Britny Lobas encapsulates angst, frustration, anxiety and aggression in her ferocious new single. This all makes sense considering the song has a hard-hitting theme. Laying bare her vulnerability and fragility, Lobas explains that ‘Hollow’ is “…a vulnerable and powerful testimony…how less than two months ago I almost lost my life to addiction and alcohol. It’s an anthem that faces the fear of being so desperately trapped in the dark and the longing desire to be free…”

One to watch with great interest, it gives me great pleasure to share this intoxicating songstress with all of our readers. A shining gem in a pool of sonic pebbles, Britny Lobas is definitely one to watch.
