Track of the Day: The UNCRTN – Forget About Me
Beginning as jamming sessions for friends in college, The UNCRTN (The Uncertain) was something to do in their spare time – it did not stay this way. Quickly turning into a musical project, the three US-based musicians took the New York alternative pop and rock scene by storm. The infectious energy of their music and enthusiasm in their performances quickly drew a following, and not just by people in the NY scene. Featured on publications like Pop Passion Blog and various playlists, The UNCRTN began turning heads on a global scale. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Forget About Me’.
Following their previous track ‘Out Of Time’, The UNCRTN brings the sounds of 90s and early 2000s pop-rock/pop-punk to the fore. Combining powerful guitars and pounding drums in the hard-hitting arrangement, the trio certainly hit you in the stomach with a soul-stirring melody. Interestingly enough, while the scorching riffs and blasting beats do send you on a sonic journey to the stars, there is a charming flow beneath the instrumentation – and we can’t forget the female vocals that lead you through the song with her sweetness.
Lying somewhere between Paramore and Avril Lavigne, The UNCRTN have a bold female-fronted presence. The thing is, while there are tinges of Hayley Williams in the rich vocals, a distinctive tone ensures this is something new and not to be compared…not really.
Just as the melody slams out of the park, the lyricism and message in the track are as forceful. Acknowledging that desire to move on from certain situations you have outgrown, ‘Forget About Me’ is the sigh of relief felt when you leave difficult circumstances. The group explain that “it’s basically a song about getting away from stuff that brings you down and tries to change who you are as a person. A reflective moment in life when you realise you have stopped connecting with the group of people you have grown up with…that you want no part of the same ideals, thoughts or viewpoints that people close to you have, so you just have to get away from all that toxicity…”
