Track of the Day: The Kantors – Linda
Some of the best groups are family bands. I mean, look at The Jackson 5, now there was some amazing funk-pop music right there. Today I introduce you to the Midwest indie-folk duo The Kantors. Inspired by their diverse influences, Kristin and Dan Kantor fuse elements of folk, indie and jazz in their unique sound. Come with us as we delve into their debut single ‘Linda’.
Focusing on cinematic melodies with introspective lyrics, The Kantors have a profound but light-hearted sound. ‘Linda’ is a swirling combination of dreamy ambience, kaleidoscopic instrumentation, rich vocals and an overall intense intimacy. Interestingly enough, while the beats, synths and head-spinning tune does leave you drifting on a glistening sonic river, it is the tumultuous waves beneath that highlight the band’s true innovativeness as artists. Penned as a song to tackle Imposter Syndrome, the wistful sound seems to seep into your soul and plunge you into the concept with a breath-taking bang.
As I mention, ‘Linda’ explores the issue of Imposter Syndrome and its effects on the individual. A melancholic tinge to Kristin’s soft vocals elegantly captures the distress, fear, anxiety and inner turmoil associated with the fatal condition. Poetic lyricism weaves through the melodic tapestry showing the darker, deeper and more treacherous parts of the soul. Sincere, sentimental and honest, The Kantors have a rawness to their music that will stick with you for days to come.
