Eric Hanson – Globalist Pricks (2022)

While whimsical, playful and quirky, ‘Globalist Pricks’ has a lot to say about the society we live in and those in power. Through the indie pop tones of the track, he hits out at the violations of civil liberties and the destruction of certain freedoms performed by those in power. As he addresses this, he taps into emotions we have all experienced and thoughts that have passed through our minds.

If you have ever felt slighted by those in power and want to speak your mind but can’t get everything out properly, this is the song that will help you unleash your pent-up frustrations. While a solo artist, Hanson sometimes performs with local band McFunky and was the keyboardist and backing vocalist for Relic. He is now letting his emotions flow through his music, while tapping into collective emotions and experiences.

There is a groovy feeling to ‘Globalist Pricks’ that hits you from the first second. The run of the drums has you moving to their rhythm from the first moment, before pushing you forward into the sound. While powerful in their run, there is a softness to the movement that allows the vocals to really shine. The piano that enters is wonderful and you can easily see Hanson playing this while unleashing his thoughts about the global elite. For all its stripped-back melodics, there is actually a lot going on in the melody. The progressive highs of the piano are met with the deeper tones of the guitar. You can hear the touches of different styles and genres woven into the melody that shines through the cohesive run of the sound.

As the melody winds its way through the soundscape, Hanson lets loose all of his frustration at those in power. While the lyrics are heavily influenced by the pandemic and the mandates put in place, there is a feeling of something greater that comes through. Using the collective experience of the pandemic as a jumping board, he hits out at the fact that certain elites in the world make decisions without considering the consent of the people. This deeper message is woven into the rather catchy delivery of his performance that has a light punch to it. The use of sound snippets closer to the end of the track enhances the dose of reality in the single.

Eric Hanson hits out at the elites of the world while venting his frustration at the violations of liberties that take place in ‘Globalist Pricks’. The melody has a slightly stripped-back vibe that allows the vocals to really hit home. His performance is packed with authentic frustrations and anger at society and the way the elites handle decisions.
