Christophe Lorient – Notre Jardin Secret (2022)

Born in Lessines, Belgium, singer-songwriter Christophe Lorient has a unique and eclectic sound for the masses. From the age of 8, Belgium-based Lorient began classical training as a vocalist – a passion that still comes through in his music today. This is my introduction to the talented artist, but he has already featured on numerous press like Actu Music France, iHeart Radio, TPJL News, and various playlists. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Notre Jardin Secret’.

An original composition by Christophe Lorient, ‘Notre Jardin Secret’ (translated to ‘The Secret Garden’ in English) is a soothing, sweet and laidback song. Following his well-received track ‘La Vertitude’ (released in 2021), ‘Notre Jardin Secret’ draws together classical strings, strong vocals and piano in an acoustic-inspired ballad. Bringing lightness and gentleness to the acoustic soundscape, Lorient can touch your heart with this composition. Interestingly enough, while it is not a “bells and whistles” arrangement, the simplistic approach sends quite kaleidoscopic.

Soul-stirring and spine-chilling, ‘Notre Jardin Secret’ effortlessly takes your breath away; however, it also presents comfort in the whimsical melody. Beautifully textured, Lorient slathers the track with his rich vocals which have a haunting quality but also a warmth in the dulcet tones.

Not speaking French, I have no idea what he is saying but that doesn’t matter. Music transcends language and ‘Notre Jardin Secret’ touches my heart the same way any English ballad could – in fact, it may be more memorable because of the soothing French. Italian may be called the sexy language, but French has a silent beauty in its flowing nature. This sincere beauty is particularly evident in ‘Notre Jardin Secret’ – my new favourite song.
