Trevour Amunga – Sweet Touch (2022)

Throughout life, we all find something that helps us cope with the world around us. For Trevour Amunga it’s music and he pays tribute to his dedication to music through the single ‘Sweet Touch’. Highlighting the purpose and meaning that music adds to his life, he brings the spar of colour that it adds to a world that can feel dull and monotonous.

Written around the time he was finishing his EP Vespa, it offers a different outlet, bringing a burst of fondness to a sadder and more melancholic time. While music has always been a part of his life, his first recorded track was completed in 2015. Using a snappy vibe, he brings a touch of lo-fi pop to some indie RnB and retro touches.

‘Sweet Touch’ has a really mellow vibe to the opening guitar line. The easy strummed acoustic tones are given a hazy lo-fi vibe that lulls you further into the softness. This shimmers into a burst of colours and sweet flavours that vibrate through the soundscape. It is a rather quirky melody that has you slowly bopping to the rhythm. It is a really unique melodic movement that reaches out to cotton candy clouds, while the lower hip-hop beats bounce you down the track. This interplay of elements showcases the power of Amunga’s musicality as he brings them all together for a rather engaging listening experience. Later in the track, the acoustic strum comes back for a grounding moment, before you are swept up once again into the pale colours of the main melodic movement.

From the mellow touch of the opening, Amunga’s vocals haze through the synth tones. His vocals have a hip-hop vibe to them that slides into a pop flow. The softness of the melody is picked up by his performance as he invites you to sink into the gentle flows. As you are relaxing back into his performance, the lyrics pay tribute to those passions we all have that bring a burst of colour to our lives. There is a touch of ambiguity to the lyrics that lets you connect the ode to whatever passion you have. As the melody drops, the vocals evaporate, letting you drop into the acoustic strum. As the music rises again, his vocals match and take you into a chorus refrain that will get the lyrics stuck in your brain.

Trevour Amunga pays homage to the passions in our lives that bring a burst of colour, in the lo-fi fusion tones of ‘Sweet Touch’. The music pulls you into a soft space where you float on pastel clouds and allows the happiness of your passions to take hold. His vocals have a hip-hop and rap touch to them as they bring the emotion of the single to life.
