Vomit Baby – Eleven (2022)

Vomit Baby are bursting onto the scene with their debut release ‘Eleven’, complete with a supporting track ‘Twenty & Dead’. Using a tongue-in-cheek attitude, ‘Eleven’ is all about proving people wrong when they feel that you can’t achieve something. Between this, is the reminder to stand up against needless criticism and understand that the best is yet to come.

Using a punch of punk and rock, the band blasts into your ears with an energy that you’re not going to forget any time soon. Tyler Sanis (guitar, vocals), Kurt Fry (drums) and Charlie Hood (bass) first met at school, but their friendship really took off after their first Download festival in 2013. Sanis later invited Hood to a jam session, with Fry later invited to come along and the rest is history.

‘Eleven’ punches its way into your chest with a burst that shakes up your ribcage. There is a blast of energy in the melody that you can’t deny. The melody has a stop-start feel to it that pulses the messaging of the lyrics into your brain. While there is this jilted movement, everything comes to a more melodic flow in the chorus. The guitars dance together and bounce off the drums. It is an interesting and engaging movement that works perfectly with the messaging of the track. As you listen to the melody, you are going to feel the urge to turn the volume up and jump around to the sound. This is not a single that you can sit still and listen to as the energy the band have packed into it needs to be unleashed. As the single progresses, the energetic movements take a slight turn for a heavier flow that edges toward metal from the punk-rock of the opening.

While the energy of the melody is sweeping through your bones, Sanis’ vocals grab you by the shoulders and shake you. His performance matches the jilting movement of the melody bursting short statements into your brain. This delivery is fantastic and really has you thinking about what they have to say. Through the opening verse, the band hits out at all the naysayers and lets them know that they no longer care what they have to say. The backing vocals seem to egg him on and give him the support needed to hit out at people. While there is a clear rock vibe to his performance, this does change later in the track, to a scream of frustration and aggression. This movement is really wonderful and displays the versatility of the band while making you want to rock out like crazy.

Vomit Baby pulse frustrated energy into your veins, before offering a screaming outlet that gets you bouncing around and rocking out like crazy with their single ‘Eleven’. From start to finish, the single has you hooked to the energy of their sound as they hit out at the naysayers. There is a building understanding that you don’t need to listen to other people packed into the raw punches of the music.
