Clay Joule – Into the Sky (2022)

There are times when we all get a little lost in our own minds, leading to mental distress that we need to get away from. Fortunately, Clay Joule is here to help you find the momentary relief you need with ‘Into the Sky’. Teaming up with Jenny (vocals), Enzo Moccia (Spanish guitar) and Tom Ferrara (clarinet), Joule uses a mixture of traditional folk, world music and relaxing vibes to settle our brains and offer respite for our mental health.

The incredible musicians on this track open up their musicality to bring a tender wash of sound that touches on anxiety, depression and other mental health struggles. Through the beautifully emotive strains of the music, they offer a sense of understanding and let you know that you are not alone in your struggles. If the music on its own is not enough to settle the noise in your head, the flowing imagery of the accompanying music video may just be.

The roll of the Spanish guitar that opens ‘Into the Sky’ instantly grabs your attention. There is a delightful depth to the sound that resonates through your senses and draws you into the rather otherworldly vibes. It is a really interesting melody that beckons you closer, before the movement of the clarinet offers a touch of relaxation. As the melody progresses, an almost meditative feeling creeps through your senses, allowing you to quiet the noise in your brain. The interplay between Moccia and Ferrara is an absolute pleasure to listen to, as their prowess with their instruments shines through. They also lift a weight off your shoulders to put you in the mental space where you can relax and focus on nothing but their sound. The light bell chimes that make their way through the single bring an interesting texture to the track.

As the melody has you relaxing into the instrumentation, the vocals call out to you with a rather ethereal flow. Jenny’s vocals bring a touch of traditional folk to an airy delivery that washes over you like the mists of the early morning. There is a slight mantric vibe to her performance that moves into a sighing exhale of all tension. The wavering echoes of her vocals twirl around you like pastel-coloured fog, loosening your limbs and relaxing every muscle in your body. Her performance floats over the movement of the instrumentation to create a delightful meditative flow.

The accompanying music video uses soft imagery to help you sink further into the relaxed vibes of the single. The image of a dancer in the early morning light of the beach starts the journey of relaxation. Her movements are interspersed with soothing images of cherry blossoms and starry skies. Between these relaxing images, Jenny, Moccia and Ferrara appear, adding their own touches to the video. At these times the softness of the single is continued with a cloudy overlay on the visuals of the video.

Clay Joule with the help of Jenny, Enzo Moccia and Tom Ferrara lulls you into a meditative state that relaxes your body and quiets the mind in the gentle touch of ‘Into the Sky’. The melody is outstanding in its softness as each instrument gets a moment to shine, while adding to the delicate flow of the whole. Through this softness, Jenny’s vocals haze to pull you further into the mantric movement of the track.
