Gabriel Munoz – 1 2 Meny (2022)

With his single ‘Don’t Want Me’, Gabriel Munoz combined a heavy lyrical tale with some really fun musical structures that made you want to dance. He continues this blend of lively music and serious topics with ‘1 2 Meny’ which rides the rollercoaster of dating after a breakup. The bouncing beat has you riding the highs only for the intimate vocals to bring the vulnerability of the lows.

As we ride the turbulent feelings, Munoz considers trying to find the qualities of an ex in the new people you are meeting and feeling that everyone falls short. Fun yet reflective, the single continues to shine a light on his outstanding musicality and ability to make something quite serious really engaging. When you add the catchy energy of the track to the mix, you may just want to add the track to your favourite pop playlist.

The blinking lights that open ‘1 2 Meny’ are a progressive walk into the warmer RnB flows of the more organic instrumentation. The melody has a wonderful blend of blinking electronic tones, jittering beats and swaying vibes. There is a richness to the sound that offers a burst of heat and a touch of liveliness. You can’t help but move in some way as you listen to the melody, whether that is tapping your toes or swaying your body to the rhythm. While the melody is lively and upbeat, there is a slick slide to it that is all RnB and an absolute pleasure to listen to. This slide helps to bring some of the emotion to the vocals, but in a happier way than the lyrics.

While the electronic blinks of the opening lead you to the smoothness of the main melodic line, they also take you straight into Munoz’s vocals. His performance picks up the heat of the RnB touches in the melody and wraps around some sadder lyrics. Through his performance, you are really strapped into the rollercoaster of emotion that forms the overall flow of the single. There is a high of excitement that comes with dating after a breakup, but this is brought down by the inevitable comparisons to an ex. The chorus is packed with the feeling of not being over your ex, while still trying to replace them with a new person. At times, the vocal performance has a bright and light vibe only for this to sink into the vulnerability of not having moved on.

Combining upbeat melodics with vulnerable vocals, Gabriel Munoz brings the rollercoaster of dating while not over your ex to life in the addictive movement of ‘1 2 Meny’. The melody is packed with smooth RnB and blinking electronic notes that offer the highs of getting out into the dating world. This is tempered by the vulnerability of his vocals and the tale of the lyrics.
