Fifth Lucky Dragon – Mango (2022)

Fifth Lucky Dragon is taking us back in time with his eclectic indie-pop anthem ‘Mango’. Casting our minds back to youthful summer romance and the taste of mango chapstick, he brings a bright sound that chases the stresses of life away. As the single blasts out upbeat vibes, the more introspective lyrics take a walk down memory lane.

While this is the first of his singles to lean heavily into bright pop, there is a polished feeling to the sound that makes you think he has been doing this for ages. Since Louis Imperiale started this musical project, he has been featured on several Midwest radio stations. Joining him in the band is Johnny Rabb on drums and Jay Elliott on guitar.

‘Mango’ pulses to life with some great summer synths that have a really upbeat vibe to them. These initial bursts bring some seriously good vibes to the melody that has your brain going back in time to the carefree summers of your youth. The really bright feeling of the melody enhances the moving flows of the lower notes which bring a groovy movement that infects your muscles and have them dancing around. As the music plays, you can easily imagine the track blaring from speakers as people have a great time on the beach or by a pool. Without any effort, Fifth Lucky Dragon gets you dancing around like no one’s watching, or at least your feet tapping away to the music.

As you are being moved by the upbeat vibes of the melody, the vocals bring a delightful contrast to the track. Imperiale’s vocals bounce off the synths, capturing the good vibes and injecting them into your veins. The lyrics drop you into a memory of the past and a carefree summer romance. Woven into these great uplifting vibes is an introspective flow that really hits on the chorus. When this happens, he has you realising that you might slip into memories to avoid the pressures of the present. While this brings the upbeat vibes of the single down slightly, the negative emotions are thrown to the wind as you bounce to the chorus. The backing vocals that hit later in the track take the fun vibes to another level as you jump on a trampoline and scatter your stress, leaving only happy times.

Fifth Lucky Dragon has you bouncing around to the upbeat vibes of ‘Mango’, while shaking off the stresses of life and sinking into summer memories. From the first synth note, the melody pulses with summer vibes and an uplifting energy. The vocals offer a slight contrast of positivity and introspection that retains the upbeat vibes through the bouncy delivery.
