Amber T – Tightrope (2022)

Continually developing her sound, singer-songwriter Amber T is an evolving, ever-changing, difficult-to-define musician. Not even 20 years of age and the UK-based songstress has already been interviewed by BBC Radio1, performed a national tour, and is the youngest Yamaha Music London Ambassador. She has also made quite a scene in the blogosphere featuring on notable indie blogs like Sinusoidal Music, Rising Artists Music Blog, Guitar Girl Magazine and The Alternative Nation. The latest addition to her well-received discography is the single ‘Tightrope’.

Described by many as being her best release to date, ‘Tightrope’ is incredibly infectious. Following her single ‘Broken Dreams’, Amber T adopts a sharper, bolder sound in ‘Tightrope’. Adhering to a contemporary pop design, she wraps you in a bubble gum pink sonic blanket. Yet, while one might consider this a pop song, there is a slight indie edginess in the melodic arrangement. With strong textures and layers, Amber T flaunts drums, keyboards and guitar within the synth-driven tune. What I find appealing is how these elements harmonically meld while still retaining a sense of individual dominance.

The melody is enjoyable and infectious, but it is Amber T’s rich vocals that caught my attention. With a slight obscurity to the vocals, her charming tones fill your body with a kaleidoscopic warmth. Innocence can be heard in the youthful voice, however, there is a mature sophistication in the arrangement and execution.

Sentimental, sincere and genuine, ‘Tightrope’ showcases Amber T’s individuality. Moreover, the upbeat pop sounds add a playfulness to what is one of my favourite tunes this summer.
