Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends – By Your Bed (2022)

The solo project of singer-songwriter Arne Floryd, Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends draws together elements of rock, folk and pop in an engaging way. A former member of the Swedish band Redroom, guitarist and vocalist Floryd does have experience making music, but it is his solo work that we are interested in. Borne of the pandemic, the Sweden-based artist (for what he does is artistry) brought an eclectic sound to the masses – folk-rock with pop running through the tracks.

Already receiving critical acclaim from us in our review of ‘But Come On Now!‘, Floryd is on our radar, but he has turned the head of several bloggers. Featured on The Punk Head, From Sophia With Love, Obscure Sound, Sinusoidal Music and Send Me Your Ears, Floryd has been described as wholesome, warm and timeless. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘By Your Bed’.

In a 2021 review, Obscure Sound’s writer Mike Mineo described Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends as being a stylist rocker, and we have to agree. In ‘By Your Bed’, Floryd brings together a melodic combination of 70s folk with power-pop. Rather old-school in his sound, there is a nostalgic tinge to the track; however, Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends brings a modern-day edginess to ‘By Your Bed’.

Within the same vein as Jeff Buckley and James Taylor, but with the strong flavour of The Beatles, ‘By Your Bed’ is warm, tender and enchanting. His first release since last year’s well-received album 17 Birds at the Summer’s Gate, the new single retains a boldness wrapped in heart-warming delicacy – something rather intriguing and eclectic. Tipping you immediately into a swirl of music, there is a simplicity in the track, but it also pulls you along the soundscape with a kaleidoscopic intensity.

Co-produced with David Myhr, ‘By Your Bed’ is a song about “deep sorrow” which is evident in the melancholic tones. An-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends inserts his sincere vocals into the moving melody which, oddly enough, has a warmth alongside a poignant fragility. Floryd explains that ‘By Your Bed’ is “…a song about sitting by a beloved person’s death bed.” The simplistic lyricism really captures the mournful state with its straightforwardness and precision. It’s direct, bold and hits you in the gut with its haunting.
