PRUDNS – WYSML (What You Say My Love) (2022)

While communication is important for our mental health, there are times when it is hard to express what you are feeling to loved ones. This is something that PRUDNS has taken and turned into their single ‘WYSML (What You Say My Love)’. The single woos you with a seductive saxophone, while synths soar overhead and the vocals weave authentic and vulnerable lyrics into your brain.

A refreshing blend of sound, the single allows PRUDNS’ creativity to shine. Their passion for songwriting started at the tender age of 8 and has since seen them performing with local bands Wurli and Little Lotus. This led to the release of her debut single ‘Lies’ in 2021 and a debut EP later that same year.

The saxophone line that opens ‘WYSML (What You Say My Love)’ is a gentle caress against your senses. It is a sultry and seductive saxophone line that wraps around your shoulders and pulls you into a close embrace. This line drops for a fresh electronic pop movement that gets your feet tapping away to the rhythm. The melody is an amazing combination of sultry saxophone lines and light electronic pop vibes that have been masterfully merged. There are times when the melody jitters against your skin getting your muscles to bop, before sliding into a seductive sax movement. It is a really dynamic melodic arrangement that perfectly captures the struggles of expressing your emotions to someone. At times, the music feels constrained like you are unable to say what you need to, only for the saxophone to slide out with a smoothness that makes talking easy.

While the melody is packed with dynamic movements, the vocals are an authentic and rather rousing flow of emotion. She enters the single with a wispy vocal flow that adds to the seductive flow of the saxophone. As the blast of fresh pop comes in, their vocals slide in with a light skip to them. Their performance is like small blooming flowers laying out a path for you to follow through the single. The glitchy vocals that enter later adds to the texture of the track, while the main vocal line carries a tender vulnerability. You can hear the authenticity in their performance as they offer a heartfelt opening up of emotion.
