Not Now Norman – Save Me (2022)

If Evanescence were to have a child with Halestorm, the chances are it would be Not Now Norman. Bringing a savage ferocity to contemporary rock scenes, the UK-based foursome melds alternative rock with melodic metal creating something awesome. Featured in NE Volume, Rambling Man Reviews, With Just A Hint Of Mayhem, Sinusoidal Music, NARC Magazine and various playlists, Not Now Norman is turning heads on an international level. The latest addition to their hard-hitting discography is ‘Save Me’.

Following their single ‘Shut Your Mouth’, Not Now Norman adopts a heavier and harder sound in ‘Save Me’. Powerful guitars, pounding drums and haunting vocals are harmonically arranged in an “in your face” melody. Not one to turn from controversial topics, Not Now Norman touches on existential problems speaking to people on a conceptual level, as well as a personal one. The heaviness and strength of the track not only showcase their hard rock style but also align with the noteworthy themes of the song.

As I mentioned, Not Now Norman is not a group to turn from controversial topics and ‘Save Me’ is no different. Here, the quartet considers sociopolitical issues of today’s society and the consequences. Powerhouse vocalist Taylor-Grace shares that ‘Save Me’ “is about the worries that the current problems of climate change and political conflict are causing. It expresses a concern that sometimes we just need to stop, take a minute and see what we are doing to ourselves. I wanted a track that makes the listeners feel the flames that are literally and metaphorically burning our world.”

Slightly untamed and brutal, Not Now Norman inserts a hint of Black Sabbath into ‘Save Me’. Yet, while the classic rock embers burn, Taylor-Grace’s vocals tinge the band’s sound with ethereal, spine-chilling tones reminiscent of Lzzy Hale. Of course, I cannot forget the impressive guitar riffs that appear building up to catchy choruses and mindful verses. With an almost palpable sense of “in your face” attitude, Not Now Norman blows my mind with their latest offering.

I often classify songs into “feel songs” and “describe songs”. It is impossible to adequately describe ‘Save Me’ because you need to listen to it to truly appreciate the raw talent of Not Now Norman.
