Track of the Day: Louisiana Claude – Late Last Night

Inspired by the likes of ZZ Top, T-Rex, The Allman Brothers and The Rolling Stones, Louisiana Claude draws from a plethora of genres to merge into one unique sound. Considered a hallmark of the New Orleans blues scene, this singer-songwriter has performed at notable venues such as Checkpoint Charlie’s, Buddha Belly and Rusty Nail. While he only has one album on his Spotify, he is already garnering attention. Featured on Edgar Allan Poets and various playlists, Louisiana Claude on the lips of people across the globe. We take a peek at his single ‘Late Last Night’.

Taken off his full-length album You’re Too Good To Hide (released in 2020), ‘Late Last Night’ is a song about love, lust and affairs. Combining dynamic guitars, pounding drums and Louisiana Claude’s unique vocals, ‘Late Last Night’ has your toe tapping from the first chord. Using a strong New Orleans blues style, the track is both sexy and sleazy. Lying in a pool of groovy vibes, you can’t stop your head from bopping while you have a bemused smile on your face.

As with many iconic blues artists, Louisiana Claude has a blunt and rather abrupt storytelling style. In the same brash design as Muddy Waters and B.B. King, Louisiana Claude uses his rich vocals to share the protagonist’s tale in the most straightforward way possible. He explains that ‘Love Last Night’ “…is a hard-driving Chicago blues song about a man who is caught in a wild triangle love affair with the woman next door.” It’s intense, mildly intimate and looks at human fragility in the most grin-inducing way possible. You can practically see him sitting on his porch, strumming his guitar and chewing tobacco while captivating your senses with his music.
