Lakeside X – Rising (2022)

With their single ‘Rising’, Lakeside X teases their upcoming full-length album, while highlighting the new direction their music is taking. Packed with synths and electronic dark wave tones, the single marks a turn in their sound, while offering an upbeat power. While this single is the second off the upcoming album, it is the one that has ended the music video drought from the band, with a self-filmed video showing the streets of Berlin.

Janne Marvannen, Robert Broj and Igor Dvorsky all hit the streets in the video, while burning the chorus of the single into your brain. The band collaborates with producer Daniel Myer for their new releases as they pay tribute to all the bands that have come before them. There is a lot packed into their music and this single offers the tip of the musical iceberg.

‘Rising’ uses electronic pulses to grab your attention as the synths pierce through the melody and draw your attention to the lower sweep of tones. There is a dark feeling to the music that has been intricately woven into the melody. The pulsing synths are all bright neon lights, but the lower electronic tones are a churning darkness that nips at your heels. The chorus rises above all this for a slow dancing vibe that contrasts good vibes with the growing darkness. It is a perfectly balanced melody that hits you with the light of the world and emotions, only to turn your attention to the darkness and demons that want to overtake your senses.

The balance of the melody is enhanced by the lyrics that bring the imagery of the balance to life. The vocals have a dark wave vibe that slides into a synth-wave flow. There is a slight retro touch to the sound that niggles at the back of your brain, before evaporating into something purely Lakeside X. The lyrics pull you into different experiences that are easy to connect and relate to. There is a touch of love and happiness that streams through your fingers as you try to grab it, only for it to turn into dust and darkness.

Lakeside X uses pulsing synths and dark undertones to draw you into the balance of light and dark that is life in ‘Rising’. The music churns with darkness while the synths pulse bright lights and happy emotions through the top layers. The vocals have a slightly retro touch as they bring the imagery of the balance to life.
