1.0.8. – Devotion (2022)

From his EP Nine Times Twelve to the single ‘Somerset Boys’ (read our review here), the team at The Other Side Reviews has followed 1.0.8. with interest. The solo project of UK-based singer-songwriter Andrew Stewart, 1.0.8. has a genre-defying sound showing he is not to be pigeon-holed. Described by Nexus Music Blog as being the cake that breaks a diet and by Berlin On Air as harmoniously sophisticated, Stewart is indulgent, intriguing and perfectly polished – I mean his music not that he as a person is indulgent. Maybe he is, I don’t know. Anyway, we take the time to review his latest single ‘Devotion’.

Following the well-received ‘Dynamite & Alcohol’, ‘Devotion’ nods to the sounds of 70-inspired rock, funk-rock and a tinge of blues – an overall awesome sound. Loud and bold, the guitar-driven track packs a powerful punch wrapping your body in a hard-hitting, dynamic ambience. Alright, that might not make too much sense; however, when you think about it you could be floating about in energetic, engaging and entrancing vibes. Add Stewart’s raspy vocals and you have something that could easily be played at one of those fantastic rock festivals. Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll be able to attend festivals again…let’s hope 1.0.8. is there to blow people away.

Moving from the melody, ‘Devotion’ has poignant and eclectic content “…bouncing from classic blues to psychedelic melancholia”. Taken from Stewart’s upcoming 12-track album DEVOTION, the title track observes elements of contemporary life incorporating a conceptual element to the soundscape. An interesting melodic collaboration with various musicians, DEVOTION is, as Andrew Stewart puts it, “a lot of hard work and laughs…it has involved a growing number of musicians including Dave Dunn-Birch and Joe Roughton on brass, Scarlett and Indie Stewart – backing vocals, and the beautiful playing of cellist Alex Marshall.”

In addition to the single, 1.0.8. has released an official music video for ‘Devotion’. The video can be viewed below or on 1.0.8.’s YouTube Channel.
