Stay For Tomorrow – The One (2021)

Featured on notable press like Less Than 1000 Followers, Discovery Music Scotland, Dunfermline Press and Fife Today, Scottish foursome Stay For Tomorrow are building a loyal following across the UK. In fact, there is some international buzz about the lads receiving coverage from Rising Artists Blog and Headbangers News. Moving on from their coverage, we at The Other Side Reviews are taking a look at their music. Fusing elements of alternative rock and indie-rock, Stay For Tomorrow brings old-school rock sounds to a contemporary audience with their signature style. The latest addition to their discography is ‘The One’.

Bursting onto the scene in 2019 with ‘Kings and Queens’, Joe MacFarlane (vocals and guitar), Nic Holson (guitar), Ollie Cobbett (bass) and Sean Priestley (drums) began turning heads with their sound. Hot on the heels of ‘Non Applicable (Na Na)’, ‘The One’ is an upbeat, energetic and toe-tapping single with an intriguing melodic arrangement. The combination of dynamic guitars, pounding drums and MacFarlane’s gruff vocals tips the listener into a sonic whirlpool filled with hazy ambiences. What I find most interesting about ‘The One’ is how the melody not only underlies the concept of mental health but encompasses the brutality of this engaging topic in each note.

Touching on the sensitive topic of mental health, ‘The One’ has a heart-aching sentimentality to it; however, the lyricism inspires one to overcome their problems and battle negative thoughts. Empowering and sincere, Stay For Tomorrow reach the core of mental health problems and attempt to shine a hopeful light into that dark tunnel. The band shares that they “wanted to write something that people will be able to relate to, but also to inspire and deliver a message of hope that things will get better. You are capable, you are good enough and you will come out the other side of this fight – you are the one.”
