Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends – But Come on Now! (2021)

With their fourth single ‘But Come on Now!’, Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends really get you into the vibe of their double album 17 Birds at the Summer’s Gate. Bringing a touch of old-school rock to a splash of country and folk, they delve into a nostalgic sound without any of the accompanying emotion. A modern take on an older sound, the single weaves poetic lyrics and heartfelt sounds into a wonderful sonic tapestry.

From the brain of Alien Friend, a member of the Swedish band REDMOON, this project is a solo one with contributions from a large group of talented musicians. Alongside Alien Friend, multi-instrumentalist David Myhr lends his talents to the sound. Other artists who feature on the full album including Daniel Lagerlöf, Åke Lindgren and Johan Lundström.

‘But Come on Now!’ pulls you in with the drums of the opening that introduce you to the old-school sound of the band. There is a great vibe to the music that gets your feet tapping to the beat and a smile resting on your face. While there is a touch of something familiar resting in music, this is covered by something delightfully modern. This combination of old and new creates a rather decadent sound that is beautifully layered. The nostalgia that the familiar could draw out dissipates in the upbeat vibes of the music. This is all wrapped into a heartfelt feeling that you can’t help but really get into.

The layered fusion melody provides the perfect foundation for the vocals that continue the merging of genres and melodic elements. The lyrics are poetic in their flow as they fill you with a glowing happiness. They touch on the bad aspects of life and the feeling that everything is going wrong only to turn your attention to everything that is going well. Through the verses, you are led through the dark toward the light of the chorus that encourages you to give in to the happy vibes of the song. Every element of the track works together so well to fill you with the moving emotion of the track while really showcasing just what the band has to offer.

Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien friends draw you into a toe-tapping good time while moving out of the dark of the world with the engaging ‘But Come on Now!’. While the melody has the lingering scent of familiarity, there is a modern edge that brings a new life to the sound. The vocals are soft and gentle as they turn your face from the dark and toward the light while the chorus encourages you to grab onto happiness.
