Dust in the Sunlight – Blueprints (2021)

Dust in the Sunlight introduced us to their sound with the high anticipated self-titled EP Dust in the Sunlight. They are now drawing us further down the journey of their music with ‘Blueprints’. While continuing their amazing harmonies, the single transports listeners to an electro soundscape as it delves into alternate universes.

Written during the first lockdown of 2020, the lyrics consider what could have been while treading the paths of parallel lives. The duality highlighted in the track also taps into the formation of the band which brings an extra personal touch to the sound. While released as a single, this track is a delightful lead-up to the band’s second EP which furthers the journey started with their first.

‘Blueprints’ picks you up and sweeps you into the guitars. There is an undeniable movement that gets you into the track before the music drops for deep beats that resonate through you like heartbeats. The guitar gently plucks against the beats to create a floating feeling that grabs your hand and leads you into the twirl of the melody. There is a depth of emotion laced into the music that is beautiful while the electronic tones mist over you and zip in the background. The delicacy of the music swells later in the track for a great exhale of sound that sends you soaring on the wonderful waves of the sound.

While the melody sweeps you into the track, the vocals bring the beautifully layered harmonies the band does so well. Their voices twine perfectly and lift something in your chest that makes you fall in love with their sound. As you are enthralled by their performance, the lyrics bring a bittersweet feeling to the music. There is a contemplation of what might have been in another life that is powerfully emotive. When the music swells, their vocals rise to meet it and brings an acceptance that we will never know that other life.

Dust in the Sunlight sweeps you up on powerful currents as their beautiful harmonies wrap around you and bring the contemplation of what might have been to ‘Blueprints’. Every element of the track comes together for a beautiful flow that you can’t deny. The stunning harmonies add to the swell of emotion threaded into the single that fills you with the bittersweet reflection of what might have been.
