LLC – Cheers To You (2021)

Raised on iconic 90s pop-rock groups like Good Charlotte, Jimmy Eat World and Green Day, Australia-based Lorenzo La Cava takes on serious issues with a bouncy tongue-in-cheek bang. Performing under the stage name LLC, La Cava uses his extensive knowledge of the music industry to create a charming albeit poignant sound. Alright, you think of charm and poignancy, you think of a ballad and not upbeat pop-rock; however, LLC shows even joviality can have depth. Featured in various publications, such as Sinusoidal Sound and Roadie Music, this multi-instrumentalist is reaching audiences on several continents. The latest single in his repertoire is ‘Cheers To You’.

Following his well-received single ‘One In A Million’ (read our review here), ‘Cheers To You’ finds a balance between heartfelt melancholy and upbeat fun-ness in the melodic arrangement. Strong instrumentations are combined with bold vocals prompting a warm tone; however, the smooth intimacy within the crisp guitars and drums inserts a tender sentimentality. Don’t get me wrong, LLC does not drop the buoyant ball on this one, he merely showcases how sugary-sweet pop-rock has a deeper, more innovative side.

Similar to his previous tracks, LLC connects with listeners using a personal narrative in a story-telling style. La Cava shares that “…as I started to lean the lyrics towards a more personal perspective, the song took on another dimension”. The seemingly linear content points out themes of passion and joy in social situations; however, this is where things become more conceptual. References to alcohol consumption and parties represent the emotion behind live gigs, but LLC also points out the regulations of a post-Covid reality where self-expression is affected. It’s empowering and optimistic while retaining a nostalgic honesty.

In addition to the single, LLC released an official music video for ‘Cheers To You’. Taking you to a live gig from the comfort of your bedroom, LLC brings across the powerful attraction of live music. I find the bartender pouring shots while wearing a mask entertaining and insightful as we walk through this uncertain time. While the video is primarily a live performance, there are certain lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy – not many, but they are there.
