Lost Club – Alone (2021)
Having featured on The Other Side Reviews twice before, with some favourable responses, Lost Club is a sound familiar to my ears. The brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Garcia, Lost Club draws together elements of indie-pop, indie-rock and post-punk in his sound. Featured not only on The Other Side Reviews but also on Indie Music Center, Less Than 1000 Followers, Its All Indie and various others, Garcia is gaining a reputation for catchy music with meaningful lyricism. One of the latest additions to his well-received discography is the single ‘Alone’.
Following his EP Phantasmagoria, Garcia adopts a more contemporary combination of guitars, drums, keys and interspersed synths. Unlike his previous work, there is a rock meets dream-pop influence in ‘Alone’ showcasing the US-based artist’s innovativeness and versatility. What I find intriguing about ‘Alone’ is not the melody per se, but the way the music aligns with the message of the track. It is this natural talent with an emotional depth that proves his artistry.
Recorded with producer Josh Cobb in Jacksonville, Florida, ‘Alone’ touches on aspects of relationships, isolation, insecurity and vulnerability. Garcia shares that the track “…goes into the emotions of someone not quite finished with a relationship but still believing they shouldn’t stay in it” – a thought many people can probably connect with. Moreover, it is his personal narrative and intimate engagement that keeps people listening even if they want to turn the music off. Inspired and beautiful, Lost Club teeters on the edge of innocent childishness and mature reflection in the kaleidoscopic single ‘Alone’.
