The Other Side Reviewstrack of the day

Track of the Day: Lissy Taylor – Carefree

I go through tons of review submissions per day and can often become lost in a daze of sound, but Lissy Taylor breaks through that daze and ensures I remember her. Already featured once on The Other Side Reviews, Taylor has my attention and she is keeping it with her unique sound. Obscure and intriguing, she combines elements of indie-pop and indie-rock with a smooth smattering of rich vocals. Featured on Clash Magazine, Absolute Radio, Amazing Radio, Rising Artists Blog, Its All Indie and various other media outlets, Taylor is making waves on an international scale. One of the latest additions to her repertoire is the single ‘Carefree’.

Following her well-received single ‘Quiet Rage’ (read our review here), Taylor adopts a more genre-defying approach to music in ‘Carefree’. Yes, some songs can be easily categorised but Taylor transitions from a soul/jazz design to a heavier rock-influenced sound showcasing her innovativeness. The combination of dynamic guitars and pounding drums are a perfect accompaniment to the obscure vocals. Adhering to the concept of “being carefree”, there are crescendos leading to catchy guitar riffs and choruses proving her whimsical nature.

The one thing I truly adore about Lissy Taylor is her signature vocals. Lying somewhere between Florence Welch, Ellie Goulding and Adele, there is an intimacy within the obtuse tones. It’s like listening to someone far too distinctive to forget but with such whimsy that you lose yourself in her warm voice. Teetering on the cusp of childish innocence and mature reflection, ‘Carefree’ is potentially one of Taylor’s best works in its sophisticated execution.

In addition to her single, Taylor released an official lyric video for ‘Carefree’. Please note that there are some lighting effects and image transitions that can cause seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
