Abi Mia – Good Intentions (2021)

With several well-received singles released in the past year, UK-based Abi Mia is gaining a reputation for engaging music. Influenced by the likes of Christina Aguilera, Demi Lovato and Alicia Keys, the singer-songwriter packs a powerful punch with her sound. Already having featured a couple of times on The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!), Abi Mia is not new on our list; however, her singles continue to show innovation with each bringing something new to the table. As can be imagined, we are not the only critics praising Mia with positive coverage on Nexus Music Blog, Rattler Mag, Right Chord Music and many more. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Good Intentions’.

With a Bachelors Degree in History, a passion for health and fitness, and even competing in weight-lifting competitions, Abi Mia has a unique background. Yet, it is her music that keeps me entranced. Following her singles ‘Checking In’ and ‘Make Myself Tall’ (read our review here), ‘Good Intentions’ is soothing, languid and heartwarming. Showcasing her eclecticism, Mia once melds distinct instrumentation with the underlying piano. Barebones, the acoustic-inspired single has joviality to it but not the “jump up and down” cheerfulness, rather a sophisticated and polished joy.

As with the smile-inducing tune, ‘Good Intentions’ has smile-inducing lyricism. Abi Mia shares that “…’Good Intentions’ is an upbeat, defiant, self-realising and reflective pop/new-soul track with the message that you have the power to walk away from friendships and relationships where you aren’t being validated…surround yourself with people that truly care, respect and show up for you not just say they well.” So, we can see there is an empowering stance in ‘Good Intentions’ but I feel a sense of vulnerability in the powerful song. I mean, you need to share your fragility to reach the point of self-acceptance, don’t you?

With dynamic vocals and charming melodies, Abi Mia fills your soul with optimistic and motivational music. I can clearly see this anthemic single being played at self-empowerment workshops, popular festivals and in your car to make you feel good when travelling to some unknown location. According to Abi Mia, “…don’t accept any less than you are worth and know when it is time to walk away.” It’s clear that we won’t be working away from her and ‘Good Intentions’.
