Moon Walker – The TV Made Me Do It (2021)
Influenced by artists like Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Talking Heads and Jack White, Moon Walker has a rather eclectic sound. “Cutting their teeth” in the music industry through touring as The Midnight Club, Harry Springer (vocals and guitar) and Sean McCarthy (drums) have a strong following. Yet, it was during the Covid-19 lockdown that they found another project – Moon Walker. Accomplished musicians in their own right, Springer and McCarthy have reputations for being polished composers and session musicians; however, we’re taking a look at them as Moon Walker.
Featured in Less Than 1000 Followers, Rising Artists Blog, Sinusoidal Magazine, YMX and Mystic Sons, the pair are gaining territory as an emerging act despite having played together for a decade. Following their debut single ‘Tear Down The Wall’, ‘The TV Made Me Do It’ has a funkier sound as compared to the previous classic rock design. Yes, there is still a nod to the rock sound of yesteryear but there is also a contemporary flair to the single. I suppose you could say Moon Walker is bringing old-school rock to the 21st century in a memorable way.
Using catchy guitar riffs, pounding drums and gruff vocals, McCarthy and Springer encapsulate the potency of hard rock with an underlying lightheartedness. What I find intriguing is while there is a “bop” to ‘The TV Made Me Do It’, the track explores controversial and provocative themes. Vocalist and guitarist Harry Springer describe Moon Walker’s sophomore single as being “…about our relationship with the media. Our desire to regulate it, censor it and use it as a scapegoat while also using it to push agendas and add purpose to our lives. I think it’s one of the most necessary songs we’ve made.”
In addition to their single, Moon Walker released an official music video for ‘The TV Made Me Do It’. The video uses strobe lighting effects that can cause seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy, so I was unable to view it. Watch this at your own discretion.
