Mark Read – Stop The Show (2021)

Known for his engaging, enthusiastic and emotive performances, Mark Read is sharing more music in his solo project. Originally part of the boy band A1, Read has experience in the spotlight but now the veteran musician is toning things down. Using his natural musical talent, he sings (not speaks) about the lives of struggling performers during this uncertain time. We all need someone to point out our strengths and hopefulness for the future – I think Mark Read hit it with his anthem ‘Stop The Show’.

Alright, I am getting ahead of myself. As I mentioned, Read has experience in the music industry going back 20 years (give or take). Needless to say, he has a strong following and is known on an international scale. Recently, I saw him feature on MNL, Retro Pop Magazine, Press Party and various radio stations with his new debut single. What do we have to say about ‘Stop The Show’, well, keep reading.

Vibrant from the get-go, ‘Stop The Show’ plunges you into a kaleidoscopic swirl of sound. Yes, there is a strong pop element in the track, however, Read shows he is not all about bubblegum. While the single has a strong keyboard influence, the interspersed guitar and pounding drums add an edgier rock style. An interesting arrangement, Read balances contemporary pop with alternative rock. I think is particularly intriguing as ‘Stop The Show’ is a tribute to artists from all genres and the inclusion of every musician is adequately represented in the melody.

Of course, songs are not all about melody…unless they are instrumentals. What drew me in was Read’s bold, rich and powerful vocals. Nodding to 90s boybands, his warm tone induces a lot of toe-tapping and head-bopping. It’s not a bad thing, in fact, I find it addictive and quite anthemic. Insightful and empowering, Read welcomes us all “to the show” with charming ease.

In addition to his single, Mark Read released an official music video. I was unable to view the majority of the content having photosensitive epilepsy but, from what I did see, it looks rather amazing. Think The Greatest Showman but with a more dashing 90s boyband-esque gent.

DUE TO STROBE EFFECTS, THIS VIDEO CAN TRIGGER SEIZURES IN PEOPLE WITH PHOTOSENSITIVE EPILEPSY.
