Izzy Spring – Magic Involved (2021)

Upon reading that Izzy Spring is “an avid LARP-er (live-action role play)” my immediate thought was “what?”. Apparently, LARPing involves camping and hanging out with people wearing funny costumes. I always thought that was just going to a masquerade or Comic-Con, but I’m just behind the times. The thing is, I’m not here to speak about Spring’s LARPing but rather her music.

Inspired by all types of music ranging from Brahms to Justin Bieber and the B-52s, Izzy Spring has an intricate and unique sound. Melding elements of contemporary pop with twinges of soul, Spring is a breath of fresh air in a stagnating bubblegum-pop world. Featured in YMX, Less Than 1000 Followers, and various radios across the globe, she is sharing her intriguing music with international audiences. The latest addition to her well-received discography is ‘Magic Involved’.

Following her heartfelt single ‘Monsters In The Closet’ (read our review here), ‘Magic Involved’ adopts a less acoustic-inspired style. This does not mean her voice is drowned out in ‘Magic Involved’; actually, quite the contrary. With the power of Christina Aguilera and the intimacy of Lana Del Rey, Spring effortlessly executes a heartwarming and tender song. Moreover, the melodic harmony of her rich vocals enhances the sincerity of the single.

Accompanying Spring’s flowing and emotive voice, we hear a simplistic combination of steady drums and interspersed keyboards. I particularly the crescendo nearing the end flooding one’s senses with intense joviality. Plus, the softening from the welling of music immediately brings you to a lower, more sentimental and honest outro.

Touching on the positive aspects of relationships, this virtually recorded track has a lingering optimism and hopefulness. It’s a bad pun but there truly is magic involved with ‘Magic Involved’.
