Tony Lee King – Too Many People (2021)

Recognition is something that many people look for but few actually get. Tony Lee King has captured this in his single ‘Too Many People’ which looks at a world where most talented people or good people live the worst lives. Drawing on his own experiences with people in the music industry, the track has an autobiographical feeling while still being extremely relatable.

While the song has only recently been released, it was written almost twenty years ago and sat in a cardboard box of cassettes containing other unreleased original music. With a wealth of experience gained over a long musical career, King brings all the best elements of pop-blues ballads to your ears. With no sign of stopping any time soon, King will have you falling in love with his sound and the well of emotion he is able to invoke.

‘Too Many People’ is all rich tones and smooth slides from the first moment. The guitar is captivating as it dances through the smoky wisps of percussion. There is a delightful depth to the music that only enhances the bluesy vocals. The melody has a serious emotional hit that pulls you in with the depth of the music only to rise with some higher tones. The layers of music are amazing as they each add a little something to the single that you can’t deny. You just want to sink into the luxury of the music while the vocals cover your senses.

King’s vocals bring a bluesy and soulful slide that is bolstered by the melody. His voice has a slight rasp to it that scratches at the back of your brain before he sinks his hooks into you. The lyrics are musical poetry that is so easy to connect with. The harmonising backing vocals on the chorus brings a further connection with the song.

Tony Lee King casts a spell over you with ‘Too Many People’ leaving you in awe and sinking into the richness of his music. The melody is a luxurious slide of instrumentation that brings an emotional depth that speaks to his experience.
