Zelha – What’s the Point? (2021)

There are times when you know how a relationship is going to end before it even begins. At these times, you might debate whether the relationship is worth starting at all and this indecision has been wonderfully looped in ‘What’s the Point?’ by Zelha. Focusing on the insecurity and indecision people feel when they consider starting a relationship that will likely end badly, the single enters a debate many people have had with themselves.

As the third single from her upcoming debut EP, it continues the journey of self-discovery and dips into dysfunctional relationships. Drawing on a range of influences, Zelha helps you escape from everyday life for a moment while touching on aspects of the world that are often overlooked.

‘What’s the Point?’ grabs your attention with ethereal harmonised vocals. Zelha’s voice is a shining beacon against the humming backing tones. Through her performance, you are pulled into questions that many people ask themselves that really get you thinking. The lyrics have a wonderful blend of understanding that people want different things and still wanting to start a relationship that is doomed to fail. Her performance is emotive and catchy with emotional calls that you will want to sing along to.

Beneath her vocals rests a rippling melody that hits you with light undulating tones. Deep beats creep in before the melody picks up the pace for the chorus. As her vocals start questioning the start of a relationship, the music builds and builds to have you soaring into the soundscape. This dip back to the undulating tones for a wonderfully dynamic movement. The almost rise and fall of the music enhances the emotion of the vocals while keeping you hooked to the single. Every element combines for a song that you can easily listen to on repeat.
