Night Cap – 86 Love (2021)

Life is full of distractions, obstacles and pressures which makes finding a moment of peace difficult but something we should all do. Night Cap are highlighting the importance of these moments of peace spent with loved ones in their single ’86 Love’. While the single can be seen as finding peace with your loved ones, it also touches on finding peace within yourself allowing you to cultivate the self-love that we all need.

Ryan King, Jake Bomgaars, Alex Alfonso, Adrian Ayala and Deryk Camazine are the band members shining a light on these much needed moments. While the roots of the band can be traced back to King and Ayala meeting in grade school, it only took shape much later. Since coming together, they have been pushing boundaries and delving into emotional topics while shaping their sound.

The whisky tones of the vocals capture your attention in the opening of ’86 Love’. There is a smoothness to the performance that sinks into your brain letting the vocals get their hooks into you. The performance has an intimate feeling to it that has you leaning into it. This intimacy allows the lyrics to really get a hold of you and make you think about the pressures of life and the feelings they invoke. Through the vocals, you are filled with the longing for a moment of peace and relaxation where you can just forget about everything and enjoy a moment to yourself.

While the vocals pull you close with their intimacy, the melody creates a smoky screen for you to hide behind. This lifts on the chorus for a lighter and more expansive feeling. At these times, the music feels like it is reaching out for something that you want but can’t quite reach. The guitars are delicate against your ears adding these twinges of emotion to the music.

Night Cap have you searching for a moment of peace with whiskey vocals and smoky soundscapes in ’86 Love’. There is a feeling of decadence to the music that wraps its richness around you while the vocals pull you close with an intimate touch. Through all of this, you are filled with a gentle lifting of the spirit as you find some peace.
