Erawan – Touch Me (2021)

Erawan is tackling temptation and desire in her single ‘Touch Me’. Looking at the experience of desiring someone while still in a relationship, she balances the temptation of doing the wrong thing with trying to ignite the same spark with her partner. Steeped in a longing for a touch that cannot happen, she fills you with tormented emotions.

Drawing on her characteristic mixture of folk and grunge, she carries the emotions of this experience through her voice and piano. Continuing to use real life as a foundation for her music, she tells a captivating story full of honesty and intimacy. Since her debut single last year, she has been featured on BBC Introducing Norfolk.

‘Touch Me’ slowly draws you into the soundscape with a progressive melody that subtly hooks into your brain. Once hooked, an intense sound crashes into your brain. There is a rise and fall to the melody that builds this delightful tension in the soundscape. You can feel the muscles in your shoulders bunch as your stomach drops with the intensity of the turbulent emotions of the melody. The piano dances through your mind pulling you in all directions while whispered tones try and grab at you.

The intensity of the music is enhanced and given direction by her vocals. At the start of the single, she draws you close with a lick of temptation in the darkness of night. Through her voice, she makes you yearn for the touch that will fill the void in your life. This is tempered with a realisation that this is wrong and will leave you twisted in a ball of negativity. The overlapping vocals add to the cacophony of emotions all vying for your attention. Through her performance, you can feel the pain these desires bring along with the sadness of just wanting to feel something that you are missing.

Erawan uses a cacophony of sounds and the emotive power of her vocals to leave you a twisting ball of turbulent emotions in ‘Touch Me’. Through waves of temptation, she inundates you with the desire for something you know you cannot have. With just her voice and a piano, she is able to fill you with stomach-dropping tension while yearning for something to fill the void in your life.
