SheBeat – So Into You (2021)

Hailing from Liverpool, but now based in North Edinburgh, SheBeat is an English singer-songwriter laying intimate lyrics over charming melodies. The brainchild of Jodie Schofield, SheBeat has been featured on several online radio stations, podcasts and notable blogs like Indie Band Guru, Liverpool Acoustic and Jock Rock. The latest addition to her well-received discography is the single ‘So Into You’.

Following the upbeat, acoustic track ‘Believe‘, ‘So Into You’ is a merging of synthetic and organic instrumentation showcasing SheBeat’s eclecticism. One of the more compelling aspects of ‘So Into You’ is the incorporation of natural sounds creating a hazy ambience. The shoegaze-esque sound adds to the soothing swirl of sound, but it is SheBeat’s hushed vocals that enhance the softness of the track.

“It’s a love song written recently. The gentle lapping shore sounds really set the pace. I played electric guitar for this instead of usual acoustic to enable a slower strum… since it’s a love song I tried a softer vocal, like a whisper to a lover, hopefully if you listen with headphones you’ll hear the sentiment.” – SheBeat on ‘So Into You’

The most prominent aspect of ‘So Into You’ is the lapping of water against the shore. Not only does it add a flowing melody, but there is a raw honesty in the rises and falls. A harmonic soundscape, ‘So Into You’ can easily be used for meditation with a cascade of melody flowing through your body. Yes, the electric guitar can be heard above the melody; however, it does form a union with the organic aspects resulting in a calming few minutes of music.

While the instrumentation tends to take prominence, SheBeat’s personal narrative enhances the sentimentality of the song. A blissful track, SheBeat whispers to the listener sharing intimate experiences. Thing is, while there is a soothing emotion of haunting vocals, the poetic lyricism contains a raw honesty that can be construed as uncomfortable. I don’t really care as the eloquent execution sends shivers down my spine and makes me grin with inner peace.
