Mako Bron – Something Always (2021)

Striving for happiness with someone is not always an easy journey. These obstacles and the journey you take form the basis of ‘Something Always’, the latest single from Mako Bron. With a contrasting soundscape, he counters the darkness of the lyrics with the brightness of his music.

The single is the latest off his upcoming EP Mirror Mirror and reinforces his alternative-rock sounds. No newcomer to the music scene, Bron has a long history of playing, touring and recording with various bands. After taking some time away from the circles of the indie circuits, Bron is back with a unique approach to synth-wave.

‘Something Always’ gets you into some party vibes from the first vibrant notes. There is a great energy to the music that makes you want to move. The guitars move your bones while the beats have you jumping around to their rhythm. There is a slightly retro vibe to the alt-rock tones of the music. This is covered by an edge of modernity that shines through on the light synths that whizz through the soundscape. There are a few layers that come together to form a solid melody that keeps you hooked. The different layers all bring something to the melody that keeps you guessing while making you move.

Bron’s vocals add to the retro vibe of the music sending you back to the 90s with a slight Oasis vibe going on. His voice has a darker feeling compared to the vibrant music which creates a wonderful contrast. This interplay of light and dark enhances the lyrics and the emotions threaded into them. The chorus is super catchy and you will want to sing along or shout along, depending on how loud you have the music.

Mako Bron brings wonderful sonic contrasts to life with his single ‘Something Always’ as the vibrant melody gets you moving while the lyrics bring their own darkness. The music is all vibrant energy that could easily lift all your troubles. When contrasted against the more sombre lyrics and Bron’s vocals, it creates the light that the darkness can stand against.
