Bear’s Towers – Prism (2020)

Bear’s Towers are drawing on a wide spectrum of inspiration and colours for their EP PRISM. A marker for the evolution of the band, the four-track EP brings a splash of new colours to the band’s captivating sound. While they already had the ability to thrill, surprise and calm, they have taken everything to a new level through this EP.

Working with renowned talents Jamy Ben, Robin Florent and Michelle Mancini, the band offer a hypnotic cinematic sound touching on folk, pop and rock. Aurélien, Olivier, Tommy and Nathan came together with a common desire to create and relay emotions through their music. Through deep vocals, skilful musical arrangements and rocking force, the band have more than achieved this with their EP.

The swooping opening of ‘Vertigo’ leads you directly to deep beats that pulse through your chest. Aurélien’s deep vocals cut out over these beats to draw you into the track with ease. There is a raw feeling to his delivery that hits you deep in the soul while the music pulses against your ear. The layers of the melody are amazing as they build on each other for a solid wall of sound on the chorus. This dips to a murky depth that floats around you while the layered backing vocals call from the depths. There is a lot going on in this track when taken individually but everything comes together for the most enjoyable listening experience you can imagine. The increase in pace later in the track is a real treat.

‘If You Wanna Go’ has a broodier opening that has a weighted feeling which is enhanced by the vocals. They are an intimate line that comes through the mists to wrap around your shoulders like a shawl. There is a much earthier feeling to the music of this track that resonates in the deep recesses of your soul. The guitar lightly twangs through the soundscape while the vocals soar with an anthemic vibe. While more grounded than the last track, the irresistible energy is still felt and you will not be able to stop listening to this song.

There is a bubbling bounce to ‘Bells’ that is all vibrant energy and a burst of light. This track has a real party vibe to the melody as you want to jump to the infectious beats. The vocals have a thrilling pop sense to them that sinks into your bones making them move without your conscious thought. If you were having a party and wanted to get everyone hyped, this is the track you need to play. There is no way around the energy of the music even when it sinks to a more melodic flow. The slight roughness of Aurélien’s vocals on the track just adds to the addictive vibe.

The deep synth pulses of ‘Silent Birds’ brings the EP to a close. The dark vibration of the pulses are countered by a wooden tone and an easy guitar line. When the synth drops, the music and vocals take a calming turn that has you floating on a river of relaxation. The darkness of the opening turns into something more uplifting and enlightening. This is enhanced by the questioning of the vocals and the call to let things go.

Bear’s Towers take you across a spectrum of colours with their EP PRISM from vibrant energy to brooding darkness and enlightenment to bubbling bursts of light. Each track on the EP brings a different energy and message making it a wonderful portrayal of life and human emotions.
