a:two – a rushed act (2021)

Swedish progressive rocker Marco Ledri has just released a piano-filled power balled called ‘a rushed act’ that will undoubtedly pull at your heartstrings and have you clambering for tissues. The keyboard player, of the band Soniq Circus, has started a free time solo project under the name a:two. He started the project to improve his production and mixing techniques as well as serve as a “platform for independence” and, while he says the endeavour “will not see too many releases”, it has birthed a beautiful song about the wonders and revelations of parenthood.

The track, which features vocals by Alexis Demitriou, starts off gently with keys plotting a poignant melody and then builds joyously into a classic rock ballad with arena-filling drums. Still, throughout its duration, the song maintains a subdued nature. It seems to seek to take the shape of its subject – a parent falling in love with their newborn child, bursting to the brim with emotion but tentative and filled with a grave new sense of responsibility.

‘a rushed act’ is a sentimental venture and it feels like a lot of love went into its making, particularly in forming of its lyrics and melodies which are simple yet honest and genuine. It is refreshing to hear music delve deeper, past common and sometimes oversaturated subject matters like love and heartbreak. I suspect many people will relate to this tune steered by Demitriou’s triumphant and steady voice.

2020 could have done with a few more power ballads like ‘a rushed act’ if you ask me and I am excited to hear what else is in store for a:two.
