Byink – Ffried Potss (2020)

There are some songs that mean something different to every person who listens to it. ‘Ffried Potss’ by Byink is one of these tracks that evolves as you listen and wraps around you in a unique way each time you hear it. While there is a loose sense of anxiety that flows into peace, the movement of the track touches everyone in its own way.

Using a bluesy soundscape, Ethan Cox brings together vintage sounds and a feeling of everyday life. While resting on some blues waves, the single crosses genres as it winds its way down a different route for each listener. WIth a fusion melody and compelling guitar riffs, it really showcases what Byink has to offer.

The opening guitar line of ‘Ffried Potss’ slides into your ears with an addictive blues vibe. You can hear the influence of the blues guitar greats of the past resting in the mesmerising flow. The melody is guitar-driven but there is a light jazzy feel to the drums. Throughout the track, there are these guitar riffs that have a light Eric Clapton vibe to them. While Byink draws on these influences, there is a very unique vibe to the music as the bluesy flows are wrapped in a more indie tone. Seriously, you are going to get lost in the guitar riffs that really make the track into something else.

While I am fully infatuated with the guitar on the track, Byink’s vocals are nothing to sneer at. His voice continues the bluesy flow but brings a thread of rock to the proceedings. He uses an interesting lyrical structure that brings a vagueness to the meaning of the song. This is really great because it allows the single to touch everyone in a different way like some of the great blues tracks of the past.

Byink brings back the bluesy rock of old while drawing you into an interesting lyrical structure that hits everyone differently with ‘Ffried Potss’. While the guitar is a thing of beauty on the track, his vocals have a captivating edge that really sticks in your brain. They come together to create a unique track bringing the best of old-school music and modern takes.
