The Pretty Visitors – Head in the Sand (2020)

If you have ever questioned why you are doing what you are doing and wondered when the cycle will end, The Pretty Visitors have the song you need. ‘Head in the Sand’ considers the never-ending cycle many of us fall into with work and life. The personal and relatable single captures the frustration felt when you realise you are stuck with no end in sight.

Using clever and articulate lyrics wrapped in their rock sound, Connor (vocals, guitar), Aaron (lead guitar), Sam (bass) and Jack (drums) will have you wanting to break free. Since bursting onto the scene in 2019, the band has played a number of notable support slots and kicked off 2020 headlining at Ice Breaker Festival. With their most fervent single yet, the band will hook you to their sound and ensure you get your head out of the sand.

‘Head in the Sand’ hits the ground running with an infectious drumbeat that soaring guitar lines fly over. The pace of the melody shakes your insides as you are filled with the band’s energy. There is an anthemic vibe to the music that makes you want to sing along, particularly on the chorus. The music pulses on the chorus to bolster the anthemic drive as the percussion shivers and shakes in the background. There are a few layers to the melody that work together for a propulsion that you can’t stop.

Connor’s vocals move from rap-rock to melodic calls on the chorus. The harmonisations on the chorus have a slight electronic tinge that only helps to send you flying. The lyrics are a clever burst of the reality that draws you down on the verses, before making you question everything on the chorus. Through Connor’s performance, you are filled with frustration at the monotony of life before the band pulses a want to break free through your chest.

The Pretty Visitors fill you with the need to break free of the monotony of life through the energetic pulses of ‘Head in the Sand’. Connor’s vocals highlight everything dragging you down only to give you the shove you need to break free. The pulses of the melody bolster the feelings of frustration laced into the vocals.
