Cherry Dream – Luck (2020)

The beautiful arrangements of ‘Help Me Breathe’ had us swirling in a sonic representation of desperation and a floundering spirit. Cherry Dream is moving away from introspection for her single ‘Luck’ and taking a look at the past and life’s journey. Through the melded soundscape, she looks at the realisation that events in your past were the most important to achieve the life you want.

The single also considers how we never identify luck we already have as we move through life. These reflections are set to a combination of modern jazz and alternative pop. A non-conventional soundscape helps to create the space you need to calmly consider luck, life and past events.

‘Luck’ brings the jazz vibes in with a smooth piano line in the opening. This melds with the jazzy beats that filter in for a groovy melody. There is a wonderful flow to the melody that slides down your spine and gets your shoulders moving. The horns that lightly enter in the background add to the jazz flow. However, there is a dash of alternative pop resting in the beats that come in later in the track. These elements meld together for a complex melody that avoids conventional flows for an engaging listening experience.

The melodic flow of the track continues with the vocals. While the main movement of the performance is smooth jazz, there is also a note of pop resting in the lower levels. As the vocals enter, they draw you into the journey of life and a reflection on the past. There is a lot of power in the vocals, but this is modulated perfectly to match the flows of the melody.

Cherry Dream has you looking at the past and the journey of life through the smooth jazzy soundscape of ‘Luck’. The melody melds traditional jazz tones with soulful horns and a light dusting of alternative pop. The vocals continue the jazz flow as they slide across your skin and get your shoulders moving.
