Modern Guilt – Get Along (2020)

Following their critically acclaimed single ‘Hoping For The Hoping’ UK natives Modern Guilt is building both a reputation for insightful, engaging music and a loyal following. Described as one of the best new bands in 2020 by Amazon Music and This Feeling, the London-based alternative-rock group is hitting the soundwaves in a big way without any sight of slowing down. Only two songs in and Jaz (vocals/guitar), Andreas Podda (lead guitar), Dan Williams (bass), Glyn Evans (keys/organ) and Scott Thomson (drums) are already capturing the eye of big-hitters like Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream describing them as “real good”. The latest addition to their discography is ‘Get Along’

Produced by Mikey Buckley, ‘Get Along’ is a merging of 1960s rock with contemporary indie-rock sounds. I would compare the fantastic five-some to Oasis or The Verve, but their style is far more distinctive. Showcasing their innovativeness and eclecticism as artists, ‘Get Along’ is a swirl of powerful guitars, pounding drums and twinges of synths underlying everything. Yet, while the instrumentation is truly dynamic, it is Jaz’s hearty, throaty and unique vocals that enhance the individuality of Modern Guilt.

After the overwhelmingly positive response to their single ‘Hoping For The Hoping’ (featured in Mystic Songs, AAA Backstage, Indie Central Music, Chalkpit Records and Listen To Discover), topping the debut may be difficult…not for Modern Guilt. Energetic, forceful, melodic and beguiling, ‘Get Along’ overshadows ‘Hoping For The Hoping’ without too much effort. A breath of fresh air in an over-populated indie music scene, Modern Guilt is breaking boundaries with their genre-defying sound. I can’t wait for more!
