Jay Tennant – Star City Serenade (2020)

After ten years of performing with indie-rock groups across the Midlands, Jay Tennant decided to break free and began his solo project in 2015. Moving away from the restrictions of a band, Tennant channelled his passion and energy into his own original material and in 2018 he released the well-received album From The Far Field. In 2019 Tennant released his album Escape Routes to critical acclaim from Nexus Music Blog, NME, BBC Introducing Coventry and Warwickshire, Switch Radio and We Write About Music. Still going strong, the latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Star City Serenade’.

Described as an “anthemic new single from singer-songwriter talent Jay Tennant”, ‘Star City Serenade’ is a showcase of Tennant’s innovativeness, versatility and originality. Potentially one of the most romantic songs in his repertoire, ‘Star City Serenade’ uses charming lyricism with tranquil instrumentation resulting in an enchanting song. Retaining his David Bowie-esque eclecticism, Tennant oozes lyrical sentimentality with poetic elegance. The reference to intimate moments, shooting stars and even the film The Crow demonstrates his soulful connection with the audience and his romantic partner.

The second single from Tennant’s upcoming concept album (to be released in 2021), ‘Star City Serenade’ is a gossamer web of sincerity flung over raw honesty. It’s said that the best music makes you feel rather than merely hearing; ‘Star City Serenade’ has the feeling of drifting along in a comfortable river with calming, endearing ripples along the way.
