Cherry Dream – Help Me Breathe (2020)

Fusing elements of alternative pop with hip-hop and indie-rock, Cherry Dream is breeding a genre-bending sound – all from home studios. Conceived at the beginning of 2020 when attending Masters classes at the University of West London, Cherry Dream is a new breath of fresh air in the pop scene. Featured on several Spotify playlists, the Portuguese singer-songwriter is slowly gaining a following and reputation for inspirational and original music. Her debut single is ‘Help Me Breathe’.

“The track is about mad love. When you love someone to the point your love where your love is stronger than anything, although it is also a destructive thing to your inner self because you would do anything in the world to protect it.” – Cherry Dream on ‘Help Me Breathe’

Produced alongside composer/producer Geo Moon and music engineer Boris Saint Pierre, ‘Help Me Breathe’ is a delicate blanket of music woven with synth-driven instrumentation and haunting vocals. Touching on the issue of obsessive love and its consequences, Cherry Dream not only shares profound insight lyrically but also sonically creating a swirling ambience of sound.

Beautifully textured and arranged, ‘Help Me Breathe’ is a representation of despair, desperation and an inner floundering of spirit. Cherry’s underlying vocals seem distorted with a surreal “underwater” sound which is both endearing and heartbreaking. This is only her debut single, but Cherry seems to have discovered that delicate balance between profound simplicity and complex gravity in ‘Help Me Breathe’.
