A Chat with LE JUNK (04.11.20)

Fusing elements of alternative rock, indie-rock, pop and grunge, UK-based multi-instrumentalist LE JUNK has been building a reputation for unique, genre-defying sound. We spoke with LE JUNK about his new single ‘Level 3’, music videos, future plans and more.

OSR: Can you tell us how you chose the name ‘LE JUNK’?

LE JUNK: The name suggests “fancy rubbish” and a reminder that it’s easy to be fooled by what’s on the surface, but you’ll always find some shite beneath.

OSR: What is the backstory to your new single ‘Level 3’?

LE JUNK: ‘Level 3’ is about obsession to the point of destruction. It tells a love story between two people who move too quickly in a relationship to the extent that their love eventually dissipates.

OSR: What inspired ‘Level 3’?

LE JUNK: Seeing a friend’s relationship collapse because of the above.

OSR: Is there any backstory to the official music video?

LE JUNK: The video tells the same concept but through the angle of fighting to death for money. Alternatively, don’t treat your life like a level-up activity.

OSR: Did you have any problems recording the video?

LE JUNK: Apart from not actually being able to fight…

OSR: Describe your music in three words.

LE JUNK: Glitzy power rumble.

OSR: What is something that will instantly annoy you?

LE JUNK: Having to hide a hangover when you have a hangover.

OSR: What is the best review you have ever received?

LE JUNK: A review by Earmilk referred to my tunes as “ferocious” which I was pleased about.

OSR: What can we expect from LE JUNK in the future?

LE JUNK: Banging tunes and a full band…watch this space.
