A Chat with Lloren (30.10.20)

Having received over 100K Spotify streams for her release ‘until our dying day’, singer-songwriter Lloren is back with an exciting and unique sound. Exploring her vulnerability as an LGBTQ+ artist, Lloren shows innovativeness and sensitivity in ‘Medicine’. We speak with the songstress about her new single, achievements and what she does when she can’t sleep.

OSR: Why did you choose to enter the music world?

Lloren: I’m not sure it was ever a choice, music just came naturally. I never imagined myself doing anything else.

OSR: What is the backstory to ‘Medicine’?

Lloren: ‘Medicine’ is about being helpless to repeating the same mistakes. I believe we gravitate to the same relationships (both romantic and platonic) until we learn a lesson.

OSR: Did you face any challenges when writing and recording ‘Medicine’?

Lloren: ‘Medicine’ was one of those songs that came easy. I was exploring some interesting soundscapes and it kind of fell out…but it doesn’t always happen like that.

OSR: What is your creative process?

Lloren: It changes. Often I start with keys and guitar then build from there, but other times I might be inspired by sounds.

OSR: What is your greatest achievement to date, personal or professional?

Lloren: I’ve had a few big moments, but getting to tour Europe with one of my favourite artists was an all-time high!

OSR: Do you think LGBTQ+ has received enough attention in the music industry?

Lloren: No. I think we are moving in the right direction, but there is a definite lack of representation on both women and the LGBTQ+ community.

OSR: Do you believe your LGBTQ+ status – for lack of a better word – has influenced your music and engagement with audiences?

Lloren: Absolutely. I write what I know so often that’s my relationships and for young queer people I think it resonates. From experience, it’s nice to see someone like you in the public eye.

OSR: What advice would you give emerging artists?

Lloren: Be you. It’s fine to take influences but don’t try to imitate.

OSR: What do you do if you can’t sleep?

Lloren: Write. Usually, it’s because there’s something on my mind and the most cathartic form of release is to create, so I write.

OSR: Has your music taste changed as you have aged?

Lloren: Absolutely, it’s always evolving. Just when you think everything has been done there’s a new sound or genre to explore.

OSR: Do you have a message for our readers?

Lloren: Listen to upcoming artists! Share us with your friends, come to our shows – we value you more than you know!
