Track of the Day: Ask Carol – Do It In LA

Based on their Facebook page, Ask Carol is a “frontwoman Carol and multi-instrumentalist Ask challenging the traditional concept of what a duo can be”. Now for a few more details: Hailing from the mountain community Auma in Norway, Ask Carol is an energetic, passionate and powerful twosome combining grunge, pop and alternative rock to create a genre-defying sound.

Since their formation in 2016, Ask Carol has been well-received by press including coverage in Independent Music, A&R Factory and Nordic Music Review (to name but a few). The group has also toured extensively performing in Scandinavia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea and the USA at SXSW Music Festival. With several singles and a few EPs to their name, Ask and Carol have gained a reputation for melancholic lyrics with an upbeat melody. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Do It In LA’.

After setting up a meeting with management in LA, Ask Carol set off on their flight to the USA; however, this was in April 2020 and we all know what happened then. Borne of messed up travel plans, ‘Do It In LA’ could be considered a serendipitous consequence of Covid-19. Unlike the typical melancholic lyricism laid energetic melodies, this single is a witty, sarcastic commentary on LA’s plastic society while dreaming themselves off to this shallow existence. A buoyant single with pounding drums, Ask Carol’s latest track is pop meets grunge with some badass female vocals. Think Paramore meets Sugar Ray with some Gwen Stefani-esque vocals and you have ‘Do It In LA’ – interesting, sensational and something to dance to.
