Louisa Maria – Bang Bang Drop (2020)

It’s rare that we do any video reviews. In fact, it’s rare that we post any videos beyond our special OSR Live Sessions videos; however, we sometimes make exceptions for the exceptional. In this case, we’d like to present you with indie-pop songstress Louisa Maria’s official video for ‘Bang Bang Drop’.

Originally trained as a classical pianist, Louisa Maria made her name in the power-rock band Tequila Mockingbyrd with a PRS guitar. After relocating to Leicester from London, she funded her career busking and performing with Tequila Mockingbyrd; however, Louisa Maria is breaking out on her own with some catchy, energetic and dynamic tunes. Check out our reviews of her singles ‘One Lump of Sugar’ and ‘Bang Bang Drop’. Thing is, it’s not just the music where she shows attitude, it’s also in her music videos.

It begins as a sort of “Groundhog Day” taking us through the norms from walking up and drinking coffee to reaching the recording studio, with some frustrating glitches here and there, Louisa really just brings you to her comfort zone. What I find most intriguing and impressive is not the initial videography, but the inclusion of online performances bringing the issue of quarantine to the fore. No loss in attitude or disappointing drawbacks, the virtual dancers and individual performances of Lousia Maria, drummer AJ Rousell and bassist Dan Plimmer brings across social responsibility mixed with some damn fine music…you’ll see what I mean when you watch the video.
