The Agency… – To Fumble Is Divine (2020)

When The Agency… hit us with ‘Defender’, their first single in five years, we knew they had made a triumphant return. With their latest single ‘To Fumble Is Divine’ they have just cemented this idea. Another track off their upcoming album, it further ingrains your need to hear more of them from the first second. You are also left chomping for the entire album to be released.

This single has a fragility to it that you did not hear with their previous release. It showcases exactly what the band has to offer in terms of beautiful musical renditions. Following the spirit of nature, this single transports you to a different dimension.

‘To Fumble Is Divine’ gently eases you into the light soundscape with an acoustic guitar opening. Below this guitar line, there is this layer of sound that reminds you of a light fog or mist hovering over the trees. There is an easiness to this song that flows over you and gives you space to just exhale. The melody seems to have a simplicity to it, but there is actually something delicate about it that creeps into your sense.

Over the gentle flow of the music, is Driver’s vocals. His deep vocals add a different vibe to the song. While the melody is relaxing and easy, there is something a little dark about his performance. The searching tone of the performance combined with the lyrics give you the sense that something more is going on than meets the ear. Looped into the darkness is the fragility of the song. If the vocals were any louder, you almost feel like something would break.

The Agency… continues their captivating comeback with the delicate ‘To Fumble Is Divine’. The song combines dark vocals with a gentle melody for a fragile single that wraps around your heart and will not let go.
