9 o’clock Nasty – Sex (2022)

Described by Find No Enemy as being “musical hooliganism at its finest”, UK-based 9 o’clock Nasty grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you into sonic oblivion. Considering the number of reviews for 9 o’clock Nasty on The Other Side Reviews, it’s not surprising that we’re picking up on their latest EP. Yet, we are not the only ones who follow the trio religiously waiting with bated breath for new material. Featured on Mango Wave, Indie Dock Music Blog, Edgar Allan Poets, Rock Era Magazine, Sinusoidal Music and many more, the lads have a strong following on an international scale. Come with us as we dive into their new EP Sex.

Sex is important for everyone – male, female, reptile, human, whatever. Whether you’re leaning toward carnal lust or a natural means of procreation, sex is significant. 9 o’clock Nasty’s three-track EP Sex just takes a no-nonsense look at the act laying it all out there. Bare naked in their birthday suits, if you will.

Short, sweet and pounding, the three tracks off Sex touch on topics from casual sex to toxic relationships in their brash style. A full-on acceleration from the opening ‘Do Me Too’ to the smooth sensuality of ‘Indoor Boyfriend’, 9 o’clock Nasty comments on the said and unsaid aspects of physicality. The dynamic guitar-driven ‘Do Me Too’ introduces us to their swagger from the beginning; however, ‘What Have You Done For Me Lately’ digs at jealousy, anger and disrespect with crashing drums. Finally petering out in a flowing yet mildly psychotic ballad, 9 o’clock Nasty highlights their innovativeness as artists.

In an interview with the trio, 9 o’clock Nasty shared that they hope listeners will derive “a groove and a good sense of energy and pleasure” from their music. They also mention a hope to “amuse and surprise” as a band. In my personal opinion, the lads from Leicester have not only formed a band but created a cult of fierce desire, danger and damn fine awesomeness.
