9 o’clock Nasty – Bad Vegan (2024)
You hear the band name 9 o’clock Nasty; you immediately think of the most raucous, unruly, inexplicably uncouth rush of seething turmoil waging a war inside your head. First-time listeners, prepare yourself for something extraordinary. Regular listeners and fans of the lads, prepare yourself for something out of this world. The latest addition to their intriguing discography is ‘Bad Vegan’.
Following the critically acclaimed ‘The Wrong Guy’ and ‘Hot Disco Shit’, UK-based 9 o’clock Nasty takes us back to the core punk-ness of their unique personality in ‘Bad Vegan’. Crashing drums meet a powerful bass with scorching guitars ripping through the melody in chaos; however, the nostalgic rush of punk incites both collision and complementary vibes in the tune. Yet, as the kaleidoscopic wheel of punk flashes before your eyes, 9 o’clock Nasty binds you in a warm blanket with golden, oddly soothing vocals. Crazy thrashing within a toe-tapping groove, ‘Bad Vegan’ is a sonic brand of duality and contradiction… but in the best way.
In my opinion, 9 o’clock Nasty tends to take the overall “hold no bars, take it as it goes” approach in their tunes. ‘Bad Vegan’ once again throws caution to the wind, pushes instruments to the limits, and struggles out with a glazed grin all in the name of a good time. This time, the threesome delves into an obscure realm of veganism, authoritarianism, and how being part of such an unwholesome society has one questioning the validity of your opinion… then again, that’s just me taking song analysis to a whole other level. At the end of it, ‘Bad Vegan’ is a kick-ass tune to be played at full volume letting the demons rest before crashing back into our souls.
