Simon Alexander – Last Dance (2018)
Simon Alexander is a Swedish singer/songwriter. Recently, Alexander released his newest single entitled ‘Last Dance’. The song is about moving outside of your comfort zone and facing the fears that go along with doing so. In a previous interview with Don’t Panic Music, Alexander expressed how he wanted to get outside of his comfort zone with this song.
‘Being young can be tough. With this song I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and make a fun and danceable anthem for all of those who wish they had taken the chance when they had it.’
The lyric, ‘won’t you take the best of me’, is a powerful line that comes across as Simon tells his insecurities and fears to come and take their best shot, while he prepares to dive into something new. ‘I want to be somebody and not just today’ is Alexander saying he wants to be someone who isn’t constantly afraid to take a chance and enjoys taking that chance for as long as he can, as opposed to just one day. He wants to live his life to the fullest and not have to question what could have been.
To me, this song is inspiring. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is hard. As humans we let our insecurities and fears get the best of us. Whether it’s accepting change or doing something new and adventurous; leaping into the world of the unknown makes taking on new challenges difficult. Nobody wants to fail, but sometimes jumping into something you aren’t comfortable with will lead you to an exciting new adventure. You learn to battle those insecurities and fears, making stepping outside of your comfort zone a little bit easier.
